Astăzi avem un interviu cu Mihai Rosus, un om extraordinar care de ani de zile folosește fotbalul drept motor al schimbării sociale. Strânge tineri din centre sociale, foști deținuți, depedenți, tineri ai căror părinți au plecat din țară și le redă încrederea prin fotbal. Urmăriți Fotbal de strada să aflați mai multe și donați pentru ca România să ajungă la Homeless World Cup 2019, în Cardiff.

La Gioale: Povestiți-mi puțin despre dumneavoastră și ce reprezintă, în România, proiectul Homeless World Cup. (când l-ați început, de unde provin copiii și un scurt istoric).

Mihai Rosus: Numele meu este Mihai Rosus și am 42 de ani, din 2003 sunt full time în această activitate socială pentru că Dumnezeu mi-a schimbat viața în 1998 (e o poveste mai lungă)…am mai fost înainte de 2003 voluntar timp de 5 ani la o asociație.
În 2003 m-am hotărât să renunț la slujba mea din Spania, am venit în țară și am lucrat la asociația unde fusesem voluntar. Am văzut nevoile acestor tineri de pe stradă și am creat un program de integrare în societate prin fotbal, deoarece fotbalul te învață să lucrezi în echipă, să respecți niște reguli și să pierzi. În viață trebuie să știi să pierzi și să poți să o iei de la capăt.
În 2009 mi-am făcut propria asociație. În 2007 i-am contactat pe cei de la Homeless World Cup pentru a participa la Campionatele Mondiale, dar abia în 2008 am primit prima invitație, în Australia. De atunci și până în prezent am participat la 11 ediții, unde ne-am clasat tot timpul pe locuri fruntașe. Cel mai bun rezultat a fost în 2015, la Amsterdam, locul 6 din 48 de echipe. Anul acesta vom participa pentru prima oară la un Campionat Mondial cu o echipă de fete. În cei 11 ani am mai câștigat de trei ori Campionatul European, în 2013 Munchen, 2014 Timișoara, 2017 Sofia.
Tinerii selectați sunt din toată România și provin din mai multe categori sociale, definiția de „homeless” e mai largă (foști deținuți, tineri ai străzii, tineri care au fost sau care sunt într-un centru social, tineri care au abandonat școala, tineri care au părinți plecați în străinătate, tineri dependenți de alcool sau droguri, etc.)

La Gioale: În ce fel considerați că s-au îmbunătățit viețile participanților la aceste proiecte? Sunt fotbalul sau sportul în general un motor al schimbării sociale?

M.R.: Dintre cei care au participat la aceste Campionate Mondiale și Europene, 70% și-au schimbat viața semnificativ în bine, azi au un loc de muncă, și-au întemeiat o familie. Fotbalul le-a redat stima de sine și le-a dat încrederea că și ei pot reuși în viață.

La Gioale: Anul acesta am înțeles că participați pentru prima dată alături de o echipă feminină. De unde ați selectat participantele și cum s-au apropiat de fotbal?

M.R. Fetele selectate sunt din Timișoara și Brașov, toate joacă fotbal, unele au început în centrele unde stăteau, altele în spatele blocului împreună cu băieții.

La Gioale: Știu că derulați o strângere de fonduri pentru a acoperi costurile participării. Concret, de ce sumă este nevoie și cum pot cei care doresc să doneze?

M.R. Alina Arvinna Ion a început o strângere de fonduri pe Facebook, și-a donat ziua de naștere, i-a rugat pe toți prietenii săi ca, în loc să îi aducă un cadou, să doneze pentru această cauză. Avem nevoie de 5.000 Euro pentru bilete de avion și echipamente sportive, până acum s-au strâns 1.000.

Today we have an interview with Mihai Rosus, an extraordinary man, who has been using football as a tool for social chance for many years. He gathers youths from social centres, former prisoners, former drug addicts, and young people whose parents left the country, and rebuilds their confidence through football. La Gioale: Please tell us few things about yourself and the purpose of Homeless World Cup in Romania (when did the project start, where do the children come from, and a short history).

Mihai Rosus: My name is Mihai Rosus and I am 42. I am fully involved in this social project since 2003 because God has changed my life in 1998 (it is a long story)…before 2003 I had been volunteering in an association for 5 years. In 2003 I had decided to give up my job in Spain, I had returned to my country, and I had been working for the association where I had volunteered. I saw the needs of the children on the streets and I decided to create an integration program through football. This sport teaches you to work in a team, to follow certain rules, and, last but not least, to lose. In life, you need to know how to lose and how to start it all over. In 2009 I started my own association. In 2007 I got in touch with the Homeless World Cup, trying to participate at the World Championship, but only in 2008 we got our first invitation, for Australia. Since then we have been participating in 11 editions, and we got to the top every time. Our best result was in 2015, in Amsterdam, the 6th place out of 48 participant teams. This year we will witness a premiere, as we will participate for the first time with a girls’ team. In these 11 years we also got the first place in the European Championship three times, in 2013 Munich, 201 Timisoara, and 2017 Sofia. The selected youths come from different places in Romania and belong to various social backgrounds, the “homeless” definition is larger (former prisoners, homeless young people, youths who were or still are in a social centre, children who abandoned school, young people whose parents left the country, youths who are addicted to alcohol or drugs, etc.).

La Gioale: In which ways did the participants’ lives change? Are football, or sports in general, an engine for social change?

M.R.: From those who had participated to these European and World Championships, 70% have significantly changed their lives for good; today they have jobs and families. Football helped them to regain their esteem and gave them the trust to succeed in life.

La Gioale: This year you are participating for the first time with a women’s team. Where do the participants come from and how did they get closer to football?

M.R.: The selected girls come from Timisoara and Brasov. They all play football, some of them started in the social centres and some of them began playing football behind the blocks along with the boys.

La Gioale: You are currently undergoing a fundraising campaign to cover the participation’s costs. Concretely, what amount of money you need and how can people donate?

M.R.: Alina Arvinna Ion started a fundraising campaign on Facebook, she donated her birthday; she asked her friends and all the others who want to help to, instead of buying her presents, donate for us. We need 5000 EUR for plane tickets and sports equipment; until this point, we have 1000 EUR.
